Conversations with Martin Luther's Small Catechism

Join Pastor Rich and a group of Messiah friends for a seven week study on Martin Luther’s Small Catechism.  We will gather virtually, via Zoom, on Tuesday’s at 10:45 a.m., followed by Responsive Prayer on Facebook at 12:00 p.m., via Facebook Live!  Like the Small Catechism, this conversational-based gathering aims to create faith.  It is for adults who have never encountered the Small Catechism, and it is for adults who studied and memorized it as adolescents or youth.  It is for those who assume that the original document requires no further explication and that we should simply pick it up and start reading (or memorizing).  It is also for those who find scripture to be an inaccessible forest of words, the Creed and the Lord’s Prayer to be rote exercise, the sacraments to be obscure rituals, and Martin Luther and his innovations to be largely irrelevant.

We trust that the Holy Spirit will use this course to ignite, and reignite, in participants the irrepressible spark still generated by Martin Luther’s poetic and resonant words.  The purpose of this study is to create holy space for conversation with Luther’s Small Catechism. Together, through prayer, reading, watching, engaging, and reciting, Martin Luther’s Small Catechism will come alive in our midst.  All are welcome—novice and expert, as we recover the original meaning of discipleship. Come, learn with us.

Cost: $17 for course book.  (Scholarships may be available).
